An orthodontic on-call service is organised by each of the two Belgian professional associations of orthodontic specialists. For the French-speaking region, 3 zones have been defined, each covered every weekend and public holiday by an on-call orthodontist.
For emergencies outside these periods, please contact your treating orthodontist directly.
Participation in the orthodontic emergency duty service is a legal obligation for practitioners who hold the title of Dental Specialist in Orthodontics; this guarantees that patients are treated by a recognised professional.
The on-call orthodontist will begin by asking you questions in order to relieve you while avoiding unnecessary travel to the practice whenever possible.
If necessary, they will provide instructions and welcome you to their practice at a time of their choosing.
Under no circumstances can they carry out repairs or continue ongoing treatment. Their duties are strictly limited to managing the emergency and providing relief.
They will issue an intervention report for the attention of your treating orthodontist.
The fees are legally set at a minimum of €68, and are not entitled to reimbursement by health insurance.
If travel is not possible, or simply for convenience, do not hesitate to contact your general dentist or a dental on-call service. They will treat the emergency and refer you back to your orthodontist for follow-up care.
